Each CD focuses on a different subject and has workbooks to enhance learning. Ethan loves to play the computer games to learn the language and it is helping him prepare for preschool at his new school!
Ethan learning his colors in Macedonian! |
Another language learning tool for Ethan is watching some of his favorite cartoons that are dubbed in Macedonian! Dora the Explorer, Chuggington (!!), T-Rex Express (aka Dinosaur Train), and more make learning so much fun! We are constantly amazed at how much of the story line he picks up on and he always has a new word he wants to understand!
Playtime is one of the greatest learning tools for any kid and we love to go to the игротека (playground) to play and make new friends! He knows how to ask the other children what their name is and he can tell them what his name is...all in Macedonian! It's amazing to see children, who speak different languages, playing in cooperation and communicating with each other!
We love that Ethan loves to learn Macedonian...and who wouldn't when you get to play computer games, watch cartoons, and play at the playground!! He is very excited to start school in August (all in Macedonian) to really learn the language. We know that he'll have hard, frustrating days but we know that he really, really wants to learn Macedonian and that knowing the language will allow him to become more comfortable in his new home...so we will help him persevere (and so will mom and dad)!!
I am so proud of Ethan. He will be speaking Macedonian in no time and then I will not be able to understand him. That should motivate me to lean some. May the Lord continue to bless you all. You are so missed here but you are where the Lord needs you to be.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, our year in language school back in good ol'e Costa Rica! It was a challenge, and language learning is a continuing adventure. We practice a little with Tony at church friends at Hendrick, and wherever we can find people who'll listen to this day. Our hearts go out to you. The best suggestion we have is to IMMERSE (a good Baptist term) yourself in the population to listen and with children to practice. The latter are not so intimidating--:-).
